The 67th International Motor Show (IAA, Internationale Automobil-Ausstellung) will take place from September 14 to 24, in Frankfurt am Main, Germany; to showcase the future of mobility, as seen by nearly 1000 registered exhibitors.

This year, the most important mobility trade show in the world will focus on the changes driving most strongly the automotive industry of tomorrow, from digitisation and automation, through new mobility services and emission-reduction, to urban and electric mobility.

Where the latter topic, standing out as one of the most important future-related ones at the IAA 2017, will gather producers of electric cars, along with light vehicles such as electric bicycles, scooters and even motorcycles, together with car-sharing providers and IT companies to both demonstrate and discuss future improvements, as longer ranges on a single charge, infrastructure and regulations, connected services and digitalisation.

The New Mobility World (NMW) the IAA’s additional format, the cross-industry B2B event focused on the following 5 main topics: connected cars, automated driving, e-mobility, urban mobility and mobility services – will bring together 250 companies and organisations working on new innovations. Big international OEMs and technology giants, along with startups will discuss and build the future of mobility, where big data and augmented reality will be among the key drivers of future innovations. The most innovative international startups will battle in the “NMW Lab17” startup competition.

Visitors will be able to experience the future on a large open-air area, where OEMs and suppliers will demonstrate their automated and digitised driving programs. Autonomous driving and braking, intelligent driving assistants or smart image recognition – different new technologies will be presented live to the audience.

Under the slogan “Future now,” the IAA 2017 will highlight how the world of mobility is changing, allowing exhibitors and visitors to present and experience tomorrow’s mobility today.

Yet, the future of the automotive market even if revolutionary optimistic, is not only bright, and there is still no integrated perspective on how the industry will look in a decade from now as a result of the increasing automation and new technologies coming together with tougher sustainability policies, plant closures, and inevitable consolidations between what we consider today as ‘unlikely partners’.

Indeed, consolidation is a way to preserve profits, yet the automotive industry has seen very little change and only a few new comers in the last decade, and its shift to new business models would not be as smooth as desired. The pressure to reduce costs and improve efficiency and services, will see traditional automotive players consolidating with tech giants, small startups, and shared services providers; as while the global car sales are predicted to keep growing, the annual growth rates are expected to be dropping, seeing consumer preferences around car ownership shifting to new mobility services such as car sharing and e-hailing.

Aside from the numerous regulatory issues, there are many technological ones to put sticks into the wheels of the automobile of the future, forcing OEMs to align their processes to address the new tech challenges like full automation, software-enabled consumer value, data privacy and compliance.

And EVS Translations is here to support the future of mobility ensuring consistency and reliability in complex and challenging automotive translation projects.
