Southern SME Forum — Excellent Networking Event for German SMEs in Birmingham, Alabama, USA – EVS Translations

The sixth annual gathering of German-based small and medium-sized enterprises at the 2018 German Mittelstand – Southern SME Forum in Birmingham, Alabama, last week was once again a success for everyone involved. The workshops covered topics that have been in the news lately: artificial intelligence and internet security. These are challenges that have a particular effect on us as an international translation company. On the one hand, both the translation industry and companies needing any kind of translation are confronted with concepts such as machine translation. On the other, the transfer of information electronically between customers and suppliers – nationally and internationally — constantly poses new threats in the form of security breaches and deliberate cyberattacks. Theory is one thing; dealing with them in practice is another. So, the sharing of experiences and constructive tips rounded out the program.

One of the sponsors of this year’s event was EVS Translations USA, which was on hand with a booth and represented by its General Manager, Björn Prüfer, and Business Development Manager, Elizabeth Bailey. The modest number of attendees enabled prospective clients to receive specific information and individual advice on their company’s translation needs.

Visitors even included some old friends: one of the companies that Mr. Prüfer had gotten to know at the 2017 Southern SME Forum in Chattanooga displayed a brochure that had been translated by EVS Translations USA. The event culminated with attendees walking to the Birmingham Art Museum, where a small get-together was held for the purpose of networking. Inspiring discussions took place all evening long – until the museum closed its doors. Our team is sure of one thing: This year’s event once more allowed them to come in contact with high-quality enterprises — with the potential for sustainable business relations.
