On November 9, the EVS Translations Atlanta office participated in its first corporate run – and there were dogs! The annual “Dogs on the Run” 5K was organized by Five Star NTP and exists to support the no-kill animal shelter the Humane Society of Forsyth County here in Atlanta, which is always looking for ways to help feed and take care of their animals. Taking place in Cumming, GA, in an idyllic, rural neighborhood riddled with horse and cow pastures, the drive was a bit long, but all of our seven participants were on time and ready when the race began – despite morning temperatures of around 40°F and a starting time of 8AM. Because once EVS Translations commits to something, we get it done; be it races or large translation orders.

Slow and steady wins the race – Though dogs were not required to join the race, participants were definitely encouraged to bring them, which is why one of our team members brought her dog Bianca to the race, and a second colleague brought Hank, one of her foster dogs from PAWS Atlanta, another no-kill shelter that three of our employees often volunteer at on the weekends. Despite having “run” in the name, everyone was allowed to finish the race in their own time, which is why the team took their time and made sure to get to the finish line with their energy levels balanced and their dogs in a good mood. Setting priorities is as important in a race as it is in the office, as a rushed but imperfect job is never what the client should receive. Managing the workflow throughout the process is our secret to getting it done right.

Loyal friends – It was exciting to do the first corporate run and to do some quality team building amidst many four-legged friends. As the day warmed up throughout the race, so did our teamwork. The old saying “teamwork makes the dream work” may be as cliché as they come, but it is true nevertheless. A friendly and cooperative team is key to high-quality work, which is why EVS Translations values and encourages friendly off-site events like these whenever we can. After all, dogs’ loyalty is one of the qualities we love most about them.
