A very small dog named after the Mexican state of the same name where it was discovered in the 1850s. It achieved official dog status when it was registered with the American Kennel Club in 1904. Nowadays, the dog is one of the most popular in the world and possibly the most famous individual dog (and certainly the most photographed) is Tinkerbell, a Chihuahua owned by Paris Hilton.
