Darwinism

Darwinism, summarized in a phrase as natural selection, originates from Charles Darwin, perhaps the most famous of all British scientists. In 1859, he published one of the most influential books in human history, “On the Origin of Species”. This was based to a great extent on a 5-year round-the-world journey on HMS Beagle, during which he made assiduous notes on the biology and anthropology of South America and Australia. It was from this basis of evidence that he expounded his theory of natural selection, but deliberately avoided using the controversial word evolution until the 6th Edition, when he slipped it in once. Published in only 1,250 copies in 1859, the work impacted on the scientific thinking of the period like a bombshell. The real talking point after that was “Did man originate from apes or from God? “
