Hobson’s choice – take it or leave it. No choice at all. This probably originates from an innkeeper in Cambridge (England). Innkeepers not only provided food and drink, but also transportation, i.e. horses. Hobson gave his guests a choice – either the horse nearest the door or no horse at all.
