Behind the Word of the Day – Lucy Kikuchi

After introducing the initiator of the Word of the Day – our Managing Director Edward R. Vick, we’d now like you to meet one of the authors – Lucy Kikuchi.

I am Lucy Kikuchi, a Sales and Marketing Assistant here at EVS Translations, and one of my most enjoyable tasks is contributing to the EVS Translations blog, especially our Word of the Day series for which I write about Japanese words that have come into the English language.

Despite the quirky Japanese surname (which translates as “Chrysanthemum pond”), I am not Japanese; however, since the age of 15 when I first visited the country my life has basically been taken over by Japanese culture. I lived in Japan for seven years firstly as a university student, then as an English teacher and finally as an in-house translator and proof reader. All of this resulted in a marriage to a Japanese guy and two kids who now bear the brunt of my enthusiasm for the Japanese language.

I hope my blog articles are informative while bringing a personal touch with observations I have made during my many adventures in Japan. Please subscribe to the blog and feel free to leave a comment with your own thoughts or experiences.
