Dolby – an electronic system designed to reduce unwanted noise in order to achieve improved sound quality. Ray Dolby initially began reducing noise on tapes and later went on to apply this technique to records and then films. The first products came onto the market in 1965 and the first film using Dolby sound was A Clockwork Orange in 1971.
