Porsche

Founded by Ferdinand Porsche (see also our previous word of the day Volkswagen) and his brother in law Anton Piech in 1931, the Porsche company motto “there is no substitute” reflects the confidence in a brand which has long been associated with luxury and reliability.

Remarkably, of almost 1 million Porsche cars manufactured, three quarters are still on the road. Built to impress and to last, it’s no surprise that the brand seems immune to downturns in the automotive market. In December 2012 Porsche announced a record sales year. While car sales generally declined, a surge in demand on the United States and China sent Porsche sales rocketing. For many consumers it seems true to say there is no substitute for this iconic name.
