Diesel originated from the German inventor who invented the diesel engine in the 1890s. He received many patents and became very rich very quickly as a result of this invention for “converting heat into work”. Within about ten years, his engines became almost standard for factories and were used for ships and submarines. France is a leader here in terms of car sales – 70% of its cars are diesel powered.
