Seasonal Greetings from Your Lawyers

lawyers greetingsHave you ever wondered why the celebrations at the end of the year are so important for lawyers? As for all of us who wish the Christmas and New Year holidays happened more than once a year and brought us joy and presents more often, for a certain group of lawyers who specialize in injury and accident claims the value of these holidays is twice as big. Just think about how many things could go wrong concerning poor insulation of electric decoration, combustible pieces around the Christmas tree, loosely fixed posters and decorative accessories, unsafe motor vehicles and load as well as increased consumption of alcohol.

According to the statistical data at the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission some 15,000 people were injured last year during the holiday preparations and decoration activities due to traumas after tripping and falling, cuts and bruises, back strain. However comic it may sound to you, gigantic inflatable toys could cause months of headache to those persecuted by injury lawyers claiming compensation for their clients who happened to be dreadfully close to a giant deer while decorative candles could cost thousands of dollars in the form of compensation if your lawyers manage to present your holiday mishap story plausibly enough.

Even if the circumstances of the mishap are not very clear, the use of proper words and phrases and the convincing manner in which lawyers express their viewpoint are proven tools for success and winning court claims for negligence. Imagine you are in a foreign country for the holidays and a drunken Santa Claus working for a given restaurant or shopping center stumbles and bumps into you. Wouldn’t you claim your rights in spite of the fact that you don’t know a single word in the local language? There was a case two years ago of two Wal-Mart’s clients who were injured by the crowd storming in the store during holiday sales in order to grab any items available and to wonder later what to do with them. Via their lawyers, the two victims filed a claim for $2 million against New York’s Nassau County Police Department for insufficient crowd control.

On the whole in December there is a 20% increase of motor vehicle accidents due to alcohol consumption. It would be an interesting case study for all lawyers to determine who owes whom compensation if both drivers involved in a crash turn out to have been driving with exceeded concentration of alcohol in their blood. In this regard, one fine word loaned from French and a symbol of New Year celebrations turns out to be a real threat. To support this fact the American Academy of Ophthalmology has recently launched a campaign to reduce the number of people who were hurt, mostly in the eyes, by a rocketing champagne cork.
